about

Paul Blandford - Death Proof's co-owner and patron - is now indulging in what he loves; making mountainous, thought-provoking techno. His first self-titled offering, in the shape of the acclaimed 'Darkforme EP', received glowing approval from DJ Mag and some of his revered peers like Slam, Marco Carola & Paco Osuna. Now he's extremely proud to be presenting his sophomore release on the label, which will hopefully receive the same enthusiasm. Maintaining the experimental nature he loves in dance music, he's provided two hugely immersive techno tracks that are undeniably ready for any intuitive dancefloor. 'Cloud Brake' brings a rigid incisive drumline that punches throughout, whilst a dramatic melody of coarse synths and noises swathe and intensify to an overwhelming climax. 'Ode To Reich' gels an organic tabla beat to an immense techno groove, all leading to a breakdown to end all breakdowns; a distant, isolated melody slowly breaks through before dropping into oblivion. On the remix tip, we're honoured to see the return of one of Australia's finest Techno exports, Sebastian Bayne. He's stripped his remix back to a thoughtful concentration on one of the many synths from Cloud Brake, applying width and sparsity in all the right places to allow the clinical groove and airy emotive synth-work to shine through. Secondly we have long-time label mate Maxx Pony (aka Timakz), we've been wanting to hear more from him for some time so to have him remix Paul's work is beyond gratifying! Yet again subtlety is the key, whilst the warmth in his bass work takes centre stage, the sparsity of the use of 'Ode To Reich' allows real drama in the minimalism involved.
